Grüner Veltliner seems to have found a sweet spot in Lake Chelan, particularly in the High Blossom Vineyard at Amos Rome. High-tone citrus aromas, savoury wild herbs and streaks of wet slate with just a touch of petrichor mark this wine as amply complex. The palate has nuance all over it and a texture that impresses. Smoky grilled lemon peel, flint, and vibrant acidity carry this gorgeous Grüner to the finish.

Fruit for this wine comes from fourth leaf vines at the winery’s High Blossom Vineyard approximately 1,800 feet above sea level and was harvested October 18th. Raised in stainless steel, appealing aromas of pink grapefruit, Granny Smith apple, wet rock, peach, and green flower lead to fuller-feeling, beautifully balanced, textural, vibrant stone and citrus fruit flavors that hum with electric acidity. It’s a thoroughly captivating offering of the variety and a statement for Lake Chelan white wines. 13% alcohol. 400 cases produced. TCA-free micro-agglomerated cork.

Even with some bottle variance between the first and second bottle, the 2022 Grüner Veltliner Estate Stainless Steel initially offers a kiss of recessed gas before bursting with classic Grüner Veltliner aromas of snap pea, lime zest and citrus blossoms. Medium-bodied and with 13% alcohol, the palate is citrus laden with a fresh and zippy mid-palate that gives way to a succulent, crisp, food-friendly finish that has me salivating for fresh seafood. Even if you are not a fan of Grüner, you will want to add this to your cellar. Only 4,800 bottles were produced and, as the name suggests, were made using stainless steel tanks to capture freshness and varietal purity. Bravo!
